A man was arrested Sunday evening hours after he shot a woman who worked at a coffee shop during an armed robbery in Broward County, according to authorities.
Jason Jarrod Butler was arrested in a residence at NW 92nd Ave., a few blocks from the coffee shop in Cooper City, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Monday in a news release. The 30-year-old man — locked up at Broward County Main Jail — is facing charges of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm.
At around 9:15 a.m., deputies went to the Clutch Coffee Bar at 9630 Stirling Road after receiving a 911 call about an armed robbery, the sheriff’s office said. On scene, deputies found a woman with a gunshot wound before paramedics took her to the hospital.
According to detectives, Butler walked into the coffee shop with a firearm and demanded money. He subsequently fired his weapon at the victim, investigators say, before running away.
Detectives canvassed the area, spoke to witnesses and reviewed surveillance video before determining that he was the shooter.
At around 8:30 p.m., BSO detectives, deputies, SWAT and VIPER (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) units served a search warrant at the residence and found Butler inside. Detectives say there they found a firearm and an extended magazine that Butler could be seen carrying during the robbery.
Managers of Clutch Coffee Bar told the Miami Herald on Sunday they’re cooperating with law enforcement.
“This morning, one of our team members was injured during an attempted robbery,” the company said. “Our team will continue to rally around our injured team member, and will continue to support them and their family in this difficult time.”
